My personal study is all about my research towards religion, specifically my pictures taken all around Liverpool's religious sites such as the anglican and metropolitan cathedral, as well as graveyards. I aim to use my research to improve my skills while taking and editing my images using similartechniques seen within the images to gain more success in my work.
(My Work) Image Analysis
Looking at this pictures represents a lot to me and shows me that all in the world is good and that no matter how bad a mistake you make it can always be fixed,
“Most Beautiful” is a way of describing something or someone as the most attractive they have ever seen. having beauty is possessing qualities that give great pleasure or satisfaction to other people, delighting the senses or mind: a beautiful dress; a beautiful speech.
“Change” people are scared of change: breaking away from old patterns, stopping something that made them who they are; People fear failure because they are prideful. They’re scared to commit to something they could fail, so they don’t try. The fear is unfortunate because it's irrational, yet easy to subcom to.
“Mistake” when people make a mistake, they fear. We make mistakes because of flawed 'noisy' information going into the brain, rather than because of miscalculations by the brain itself. The brain is able to process information it receives correctly, but struggles when that input contains errors.
“No Regrets” This is a way to give people the courage to not worry about things they have done wrong, to be happy, to not think about the past but the future.
The last couple words saying “Everything happens for a reason” is a very famous sentence in life that a lot of people are familiar with, most people think it is about not worrying about what has happened because it was meant to be. In a way it sort of somes up the all of the keywords by having all of them put together to make one super quote. The idea that mistakes can be fixed makes me understand more about myself and make me want to move forward and become a stronger and more happy person.
Having different colours in the key words helps me relate more to the quote as it's not all one colour text, it also tells me that it is better to be different because that makes you unique. I really like the simplicity of the quote even though it does go into a a lor of detail about life and what it means to be happy compared to being depressed.
The background shows the sunset rising in the background telling me that everyday is a new beginning, no matter what happened yesterday; tomorrow will only make stronger. Some people like to say to the people they love “i love you twice as much as yesterday but only half as much as tomorrow” meaning there love gets stronger everyday and nothing can change that. This picture really highlights to me how short life can be and how you have to make the most of everyday. I found some quotes that are ways to show meaning in life.
These pictures are from my inspiration for photography, Jerry Ueslmann. I really admire his work and think his use of illusions by coliding pictures together is really well thought out and brings out all the best parts of a picture. His collection of well thought out and carefully constructed pictures shows you his talented and how much time he put into his pictures. He is a well known photographer who has a huge fan base that love his outstanding and breathtaking photos. I decided to focus on researching him first due to his detection towards photography and how much time and effort he has put into his most popular images, using similar techniques of his will allow me to improve my pictures using simple techniques.
(Artist Research) Wade Griffith
He was born and raised in dallas texas in 1932 and Besides his architectural niche, he shoots portraits and products for both business and editorial use. Symmetry and interesting composition is a theme i seen a very lot throughout doing research on him.I have seen a collection of truly talented and carefully constructed pictures that could only have been done by a professional. He is not known by a lot of people for being a photographer but possess a high level of skill that needs to be shared in order to make a collection of images great. Wade Griffith focuses on a variety of different genres and styles, he aims to make all of pictures appealing to his audience and try to add all of his skills in key zone lighting to enhance his images. His religious pictures are very eye catching and should reach out to all of his fans, the symmetry that he uses makes the picture ten times better. My favourite image of his is,
This picture really appeals to everything that i like in a picture, the contrast between all of the colours (especially blue) makes the image eye catching and very adequate. He uses symmetry to his advantage in this picture and makes the clouds reflect into the water making the image more vibrant and makes the picture very clear.
(Artist Research) Eddie Adams
Eddie Adams was Born June 12, 1933 and is know as an American photographer and photojournalist noted for portraits of celebrities and politicians and for coverage of 13 wars. Eddie Adams DiedSeptember 18, 2004 and was missed by his huge fan base. From doing research on Eddie Adams, I have found that he was given a Pulitzer Prize in 1969, which is an incredible achievement which got people talking about him and looking into more into his work. Eddie Adams is a very stylish based artist who really relies on the images being in black and whit to create any type of tension to the viewer, Despite that i still think his images are very professional and clearly have been thought out by him. All the pictures are based during the war making all of his pictures very sad to think about, they could make you think about death and people you might have lost.
My favourite image of his,
This is a very intense picture and makes the viewer fear for this persons life, it makes me think about being in a life threatening position that you couldn't control. His facial expression tell me he is scared and unsure what can do to save his life or what he has done to be in this position. the calm look on the soldiers face shows that he is making this man suffer for his life pushing the spear slowly into his neck causing uncontrollable pain.
(Artist Research) Steve Mccurry
Steve McCurry is an American photographer who has worked in photojournalism and editorial. He is best known for his 1984 photograph "Afghan Girl", which originally appeared in National Geographic magazine. Steve McCurry has very skillful pictures that show his interest in style and genre, the pictures are all thought out and gives a very realistic feel to them.I choose to do Steve McCurry because of his detailed pictures as well as the colours he adds to all of his pictures to give them more style and show creativity. He is a very detailed photographer that looks into all possibilities when taking a photo. My favourite image of his,
I like this picture because of the complex nature that make you feel the girl is staring into your soul, the image makes the viewer scared and wonder why the girl looks like she is so angry. Using small details such as old raggy clothes make the image look more real and considered why this girl is in this position.
(Personal Research) (Other Photographers) Liverpool Landmarks
After completing my In The Name Of God research I have decided how I would like to approach taking my pictures and how doing this research has impacting my input on my own photoshop techniques. I really enjoy how these photographers have looked at landscape and how they have made the cathedrals there main image without having to much in the background, the colure that is contrasted In the sky is very stylish and looks very satisfying. I think taking my images will be more rewarding drink the day as having bright highlighted images seem to have worked for these photographers and would look very subtle.
My Work Graveyard's
I really enjoyed taking graveyard images as they are very powerful toward religion and i believe turned out really well, i found when using photoshop that turning these images into high key black and white images worked better and were more dramatic. I visited well known graveyards in Liverpool such as Everton and high stands, these graveyards were very big and had multiple different graves worth capturing for there unique design and stunning colours that were shown. Using different techniques when taking the pictures worked better because you could get multiple different angles which made the image more dramatic and stylistic, also found the colourful clouds was very photo changing as they made them look more real.
My Work Cathedrals/Churches
For my coursework i visited the Metropolitan and Anglican cathedrals along side multiple different churches within Liverpool, i decided to go to these famous landmarks as they show a lot clear aspects of religion and have a lot of history inside for me to photograph. Taking the photographs inside these landmarks was very educational as i learnt a lot just by walking around looking at statues or pictures. My aim was to focus on the stained glass pains as i felt they would be the best to upload to the website and would allow the most room for experimentation.
Summary of my visit to the cathedrals and churches, I think my work turned out very well and showed the true meaning of religion within these buildings. I think the structure of all of these buildings are very detailed and show my detailed Photoshop techniques that I have done to the pictures above. I really enjoyed taking pictures of the staied glass around the Anglican cathedral as they brighten up the image and all experimentation within the colours of the image. I used a very detailed technique which consisted of making the image Black And White except for the coloured glass as it made the image very dramatic and turned out very well.
My Work Stylish/Mood Experimental
I aim to make creative, energetic photo's that mesmerise the audience. I do this by messing with the colours wether that be by brighting the picture of even taking all the colour out.
My Work Black And White
These are my favourite 9 Black and White images within "In The Name of God" i think they show true creativity and having them black and white is better as most of them are inside were there was no natural light to photograph.
My Work Cut And Spice
Unedited Images Sculptures
These are my final images to finish up my coursework “In The Name Of God” i decided to wrap up this work i would focus on taking images inside buildings as most of my previous work was taken outside up close or from a distance, due to this small detail i had to visit famous landmarks within Liverpool such as cathedrals or art galleries. The first 15 images above were taken at the walker art gallery and i think have a very strong theme to them, i took most of the images at close distance as i felt it would show more of the statutes detail and might portray some emotion. I uploaded all of them without editing them in photoshop as i think they all turned out really good and didn't need any form of editing to them. The final 10 images above are from the most famous religious landmark in liverpool, the liverpool cathedral. All the images focuses on a tablet of worship towards the back of the building as the level of detail the creator went into was outstanding, the wall has some very stylish choices which is why i took the images there.
Enhanced Work experimental
Experimental
The experimental side to photography Is were I look at pictures or techniques that i wold normmaly disragard and use them to turn pictures that arent very good into a master piece.
Coloured Vignette
Coloured vignette are one of favourite photoshop techniques because they can make any picture look interesting because of the colour enhancement. This is were you completly cover the picture with one colour and vignette it to give it a bright and almost ghostly feel.
Blur Effects
Photo Frames
All of these pictures have the exact still and editing sone to them, they have a colour adjustment and a simple white border placed around them with a defuse glow to brighten the image up.
Polaroids
Paper Layer
These images are very basic photo shopped pictures as they just have a creased paper placed over the top of them with the opacity lowered to give the pictures a bit of a variety. I really like these pictures because of the variety it gives the pictures.
Gradient Map
These are all examples of gradient maps, i really dont think this technique is very good as it takes away all the quality in a picture and is too bright. Although i would never use this technique in my personal photos it could be used in pictures that haven't got any colour in.
